"Each of us, by virtue of life experience, studies the light. It has immeasurable impact on our lives. Light characterizes life in The West. The light can bring quiet contentment in the early morning in a lonely place. A sunset can be so stunning that we might be distracted from whatever else we were doing.
Capturing the character of light is one of the most daunting challenges a painter will face. The painting medium is limited in that there is no source of light on the canvas. A painter can only create a sense of light by skillfully reflecting the light that is available in the room.
As a result, creating a painting that accurately captures the light is a thrilling experience and profoundly gratifying."
